I Saw What You Did, directed by William Castle, is a playful blend of suspense and dark humor that leans into its B-movie roots. The story follows two teenage girls (played by Andi Garrett and Sarah Lane) who make prank phone calls, telling strangers, “I saw what you did, and I know who you are.” Unfortunately, they accidentally target a real murderer (John Ireland), setting off a dangerous chain of events.
Castle, known for his gimmicky horror films, tones down the shock factor here but keeps the tension taut, especially in the film’s final act. Joan Crawford delivers a small but memorable performance as the murderer's jealous lover, adding a touch of campy menace.
Though the film's tone wavers between lighthearted teen mischief and genuine danger, it manages to create a few genuinely suspenseful moments. I Saw What You Did is an entertaining watch, particularly for fans of vintage thrillers and Castle’s brand of cinematic mischief.
